Breast

Breasts are an integral part of the female body and play an important role in sensuality and confidence. It is important that women in India discuss the issues surrounding the breast . The various issues that can be addressed are sagging breasts, an inappropriate size (large, small), or benign swellings of the breast.

The common method of enhancing the breast is the use of implants. Breast implants are controversial as they may lead to associated illnesses. All the concerns regarding implants are being slowly answered with well organised studies from various National organisations.

2 most common breast cosmetic procedures

Breast Reconstruction is also a useful and necessary tool that women seek especially following cancer treatment. This helps women build their self -confidence and expediates their recovery.

Recent Developments in Breast Surgery

The use of fat grafting is the most recent development by which breast deformities are fixed.

Liposculpture

Liposculpture is an operation that is performed to eliminate fat deposits located between the skin and the muscle. The purpose of this operation is to permanently redesign the contour of the body. It is performed in different areas of the body, most commonly the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, arms and jowls.

It should be emphasised that this operation is not a surgical means of tackling obesity, becoming slimmer or losing weight. Rather, it is a way to directly eliminate localised fat. Liposculpture is designed to eliminate accumulations of stubborn fat that are otherwise difficult to eliminate, even in patients who follow a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise. Hence, patients who undergo liposculpture are of normal weight not overweight.

Liposuction vs Liposculpture

Liposculpture is a variation on liposuction. But unlike liposuction – which removes fat from specific areas of the body – liposculpture is not just about removing fat. It also reshapes the body by removing fat and then adding it to the ‘right places’ to improve the body’s overall contour.

Once the fat is removed, it can be transferred to another part of the body that needs to be plumped up, such as the breasts or buttocks. This is sometimes called fat transfer or lipo-filling. This procedure is most often done on an outpatient basis, using local anaesthesia and perhaps a sedative to ensure the patient’s comfort.
